Reminder of our attendance policy (Page 24 of the Student Handbook), if you arrive late, please check into the main office to make sure you are marked present for the day. If you have to leave before the end of the day, your parent/guardian must call to dismiss you, and that person must come in and sign you out in the main office.

Late Bus information:

Students MUST have a late bus pass from a classroom teacher, club advisor, or coach to be able to take the late bus. If they don’t have a reason to stay, then make sure they find a way home straight after school.
After-School Chorus meets on Mondays from 2:15 to 3:15 in room A19. If you like to sing, please consider joining us at our next rehearsal. New and current chorus members are encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Salvi in room A19.

Congratulations Cecilia Geyer! You have successfully earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest level of achievement in Girl Scouting. You represent the best of what Girl Scouts provides– a commitment to making and ensuring sustainable change in the community through dedicated leadership and service. We are so proud of all you have accomplished through your project, Teen Engagement with the Haverhill Public Library.
The entire Girl Scout community, staff and volunteers applaud you and look forward to honoring you at the Gold Award Celebration on May 18th in Waltham.
David Martinez has been appointed by Governor Healey to the statewide graduation council as a student representative, and we are thrilled to work with him.

NURSING MESSAGE
Update from the Nursing Office
Student health record reviews have been completed regarding missing immunization records on file with HHS. If documentation is missing on your student, your student will be provided a letter with the immunization records needed. Please contact your student’s doctor to schedule an appointment for these immunizations as soon as possible. If you believe your student has already been immunized, please obtain written documentation from their doctor and send it to the school nurses.
If complete immunization records are not on file, please be aware that should there be any incidence of an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable illness, your child will be subject to exclusion from school according to guidelines established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

CTE Updates
On Tuesday, March 11th, Mrs. Johnston’s CTE Biomedical Science Class had the privilege of welcoming Histology Supervisor for Holy Family- Lawrence General Hospital, Melissa Drew -DeFrank. Melissa discussed the daily roles and responsibilities of a histotechnologist and showed students in great detail how tissues from biopsies are labeled, fixed, processed, embedded, sliced with a microtome, stained, and verified for examination by a pathologist. She also discussed educational paths to reach this career and showed students the differences between various tissue types under a microscope. Students enjoyed seeing the slides and even got to take home an example of a tissue cassette in which tissue samples are normally placed for processing. It was a fun and interesting experience for all. We are so grateful to Melissa for this amazing experience!
CTE Engineering/Manufacturing Sophomores had a visit from Max Ma, a Mechanical Engineer at Trane. Max explained the complexities of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and toured the students around Haverhill High School to show a real-world example in the building that they spend so much time in. Students were engaged and asked many great questions. Thank you Max for sharing your time and experience with our students!
On Thursday, March 13th Mrs. Johnston’s CTE Senior Biomedical Innovations class participated in the Biobuilder Symposium at the Ragon Institute at MIT, where they presented their synthetic biology projects to professionals and peers. Over 57 teams participated from across the country and across the world. Haverhill was represented by two teams. One developed a biosensor to detect PFAS in water using genetically engineered E.coli and the other team created a design for a diagnostic tool for Ehlers-Danlos syndrome using yeast. This project was very relevant since one team member has this condition and was able to meet other professionals and students who also have this condition. The Haverhill students were models of academic excellence and professionalism and we are extremely proud of them!
HHS CTE Seniors in the Information Technology and Computer Science & Web Development programs had the opportunity to tour the Google offices in Cambridge. Students learned about the many opportunities available as an employee at Google and got to explore the amazing facilities. It was a great experience and we are thankful to Andrew Bannon and Kamie Ngamsathaponchai for welcoming our students, sharing their backgrounds and thoroughly answering student questions!
