HHS Principal Announcement

Dear Haverhill High School Students and Families,

Following the June resignation of the former Haverhill High School Principal, the District has been engaged in a comprehensive search process to find the next HHS Principal. As is the case for all administrative searches, a search committee was formed comprised of HHS faculty, students, parents, and District administrators. The resulting candidate pool was smaller than we hoped, likely due to the timing and the size and scope of the job of an urban high school principal. After interviewing candidates, two rose to the top as bright and talented future leaders; however, neither had principal experience. After many discussions with our school and District leaders, we have determined that due to the current complexity of needs at HHS, a leader with extensive experience as a principal and knowledge of the Haverhill community is needed. The District decided to pause the search process for a permanent HHS Principal. However, I am pleased to share that Kevin Soraghan, a long-time Haverhill resident and experienced educational leader, has agreed to serve as the HHS Interim Principal.

Mr. Soraghan began his career in Haverhill, serving as a teacher, an elementary school principal, and a principal at Haverhill High School. Mr. Soraghan has also served as the principal at Boxford’s Spofford Pond Elementary School and Billerica High School. He is a very competent and experienced principal with a track record of leadership characterized by collaboration, consistency, and fairness. He works exceptionally well with all stakeholders, including families, faculty, staff, and students.

At this time of leadership transition, I would like to thank all the staff who have supported HHS over the past year as we have struggled to return from the pandemic. I am particularly indebted to the HPS Leadership Team that joined me at HHS this Spring; their calming presence and steady support were invaluable. Moving forward, the Chief of Teaching, Learning, and Leading, Bonnie Antkowiak and her team, have permanently relocated the curriculum offices to HHS to provide additional support, stability, and leadership. I, too, will continue to have office space at Haverhill High to support our staff and students.

We are fortunate to have a leader like Kevin to lead Haverhill High School as we rebuild our school community post-COVID. He will provide not only the stability that is sought but also the ability to make forward progress on this year’s goals. In the coming weeks, we will release information about “Meet and Greet” opportunities where you can meet Mr. Soraghan. Please be on the lookout for that information. I know you will join me in welcoming Mr. Soraghan back to Hillie Nation!

Best,

Margaret Marotta Ed.D.
