CTE HAPPENINGS

Career Technical Education Sophomores in the PLTW Biomedical Science program were fortunate to hear about radiology as a career from Jacob Calkins, Lead MRI Research Specialist at the MGH Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.  Mr. Calkins provided a great overview of the various career paths available to radiologists as well as various employment opportunities.  The class is excited for a visit to their facility in Boston in December!  Special thanks to Mr. Calkins for sharing his time and experiences with us.  For more information about CTE Work-Based Learning opportunities, contact Lisa Hunt at lhunt@haverhill-ps.org.

CTE Information Technology and Computer Science & Web Development Sophomores were fortunate to hear from George Peters from New England Invents (NEI) during their Entrepreneurship class.  This marks the beginning of a new Inventor in Residence program at Haverhill High School – the first of its kind in Massachusetts!  Mr. Peters introduced students to “What is an Inventor” and shared highlights from his past experiences.  Students had the opportunity to see his first patent, as well as some of his and other inventors’ product samples.  Students also learned about professionalism and the importance of a first impression.  Haverhill Public Schools students who are age 18 and under are invited to become members of NEI at no cost!  New England Invents is located at the iHub in downtown Haverhill.  This is an exciting opportunity for our students and we extend a huge thank you to George Peters and New England Invents!  For more information about CTE Work-Based Learning opportunities, contact Lisa Hunt, lhunt@haverhill-ps.org.

MJROTC UPDATE

YOUR Haverhill High School MCJROTC Raiders competed this weekend at Assabet High School as they hosted the 3rd Raider Competition of the year.  It was without a doubt one of the most challenging having to compete against 15 other JROTC teams throughout the Northeast.  Our Haverhill Alpha team finished in 2nd place Overall and brought home 5 more trophies for the trophy table.  For the year YOUR Haverhill MCJROTC Raiders have earned 29 Trophies.  Thank you ALL for the continued support of our program.

BACKPACK 68

Due to poverty levels in Haverhill, all students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.

But there are 68 hours between lunch on Friday and breakfast on Monday when many students go hungry.

If you are in a position to help the school community please reach out to Maureen Simmons!

Together we will make a difference towards food insecurity.

Thank you so much to all the community members who gave so much last year! It takes a village!
