HHS COUNSELING

Calling Junior & Senior Parents/Guardians: Information on financial aid, although necessary, can be a boring topic. Our School Counseling Department at HHS would like to put a spin on it this year and host Kevin Fudge who is a representative of MEFA. He is an entertaining presenter and provides the ins and outs of FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). He will be presenting to interested families on Tuesday, November 26th from 6-7pm at High School in the auditorium. FAFSA opens on December 1st. Please join us! If you will be attending and require translation services please contact: megan.arivella@haverhill-ps.org

CTE HAPPENINGS

CTE Biomedical Science Juniors in Mrs. Bamford’s class learned about Audiology as a career path from Sarah Linskey, Doctor of Audiology and owner of Nashoba Valley Hearing. Dr. Linskey shared information about how sound is received through the ears and processed by the brain. It was a very interesting and thorough presentation that aligned with the current class curriculum. Students were very engaged and asked great questions!  Special thanks to Dr. Linskey for sharing her time with our students.  For more information about CTE Work-Based Learning opportunities, contact Lisa Hunt at lhunt@haverhill-ps.org.

Sophomores in the CTE Healthcare Occupations course were honored to have Dr. Mary Clisbee of Partners in Health visit the classroom and speak about global health issues and initiatives. Dr. Clisbee is based out of Haiti and recently returned from Sierra Leone where she is involved in efforts to build a new hospital.  Students learned about issues facing much of the world’s population including severe poverty, disease and a lack of clean water.  Dr. Clisbee spoke about her experiences over her years in this setting and opportunities for people to become involved in healthcare inequities in a compassionate and collaborative way.  A huge thank you to Dr. Clisbee for sharing her time and experiences with our students!  For more information about CTE Work-Based Learning opportunities, contact Lisa Hunt at lhunt@haverhill-ps.org.

Mrs. Johnston’s CTE Biomedical Science class was fortunate to have Forensic Scientist Julianna Hooper from the State Police Crime Lab in Danvers speak to them about processing evidence from crime scenes including blood, DNA, fingerprints, body fluids, bullets and more. They tried out various kinds of tests, including viewing seemingly invisible stains with UV light, collecting lead and copper from bullet fragments, as well as correct dusting technique.  They also watched demos for how to test for trace evidence such as blood and gunpowder residue.  It was a fascinating day and we appreciate Ms. Hooper’s expertise!  For more information about CTE Work-Based Learning opportunities, contact Lisa Hunt at lhunt@haverhill-ps.org.

The Garden Club has been very busy making tic tac toe boards, and signs. They meet every week and have a ton of fun. For more information please contact Nancy Burke. (Pictured: Niclouri Moreta & Raicis Lugo Tifa with their creations).

BACKPACK 68

Due to poverty levels in Haverhill, all students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.

But there are 68 hours between lunch on Friday and breakfast on Monday when many students go hungry.

If you are in a position to help the school community please reach out to Maureen Simmons!

Together we will make a difference towards food insecurity.
Thank you so much to all the community members who gave so much last year! It takes a village!
