CTE UPDATES

On Friday, May 9th Mrs. Johnston and Miss Bamford took CTE students to the PLTW Showcase at the New Balance Arena in Boston.  Seniors were able to present their capstone projects to industry professionals, while underclassmen presented a variety of projects, including health and ecotourism. Seniors earned an award for their 4 year dedication to the program, while underclassmen enjoyed speaking with their peers and providing feedback on their work.  Industry professionals were impressed by the students’ professionalism and the creativity behind their projects.  It was a wonderful day and we are so grateful to the One8 Foundation for its support in Biomedical Science.

After completing their unit on cancer, CTE Biomedical Science Juniors welcomed a guest speaker from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  Clinical Coordinator of Radiation Therapy, Janki Patel, shared insight into the current trends in cancer identification and treatment as well as highlights of MCPHS’s Radiation and Nuclear Medicine programs.  What a great way to end this important unit of work!

CTE Engineering/Manufacturing Freshmen visited Northern Essex Community College!  They learned about the Engineering program, Early College options, toured the campus and heard from Sophie Rokosz, a NECC alum who now works as a Systems Engineer in the robotics industry.  The highlight of the day was building a circuit and writing code to make an LED blink.  Now they are excited for their Digital Electronics class next year!  Special thanks to Doug Leaffer for coordinating this great experience for our students.

The HHS Internship Program hosted its Presentation Celebration, where 12 students shared their internship experiences.Thank you to our partners- Lawrence General Hospital, Parker Hannifin, HPS IT, and UMass Lowell for making this possible. Eight students will continue to participate in an internship this summer, and 25 more will be recognized at our final celebration on June 2nd. Way To Go, Hillies!
