October, 2009--Updates
As the leaves begin to fall, we are well into the new school year, and it has been an exciting year so far for faculty and students. As I have said in the past, students should get involved in some after school activities, and many clubs still have openings as well as winter sports starting up in mid-November. A list of clubs and times they meet can be found on the HHS Website. Studies have proved that students who stay involved with school related activities generally do better in school.
The month of October brings our annual Spirit Week to the high school. The week includes dress up days and class wars (see information on the web site). The annual Bonfire will be held on Wednesday, October 21, with games and fun for all classes. The admission is $5.00 and will be sold to students in good standing. Students should bring their school IDs to prove they are members of the high school. The homecoming game is Friday night with the class Float Parade at halftime. A Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday from 7-10 p.m. in the HHS cafeteria with proper dress required (no jeans). Please come and join in the homecoming festivities and cheer the HHS football team to a victory. We hope Homecoming 2009 will be a fun time for all!
Students and parents are reminded that the $50.00 parking fee is due. Because of upcoming construction, spaces may be at a premium, and only those students with valid stickers will be able to park in the assigned spaces; therefore, sign up early to insure your parking privilege.
We are sill looking for Site Council members. If you are interested, please send an email to bnangle@haverhill-ps.org, and I will send you information about our procedures.
Important Testing Dates Coming up:
- PSAT testing on October 17th
- ACT testing on October 24th
- SAT testing on November 7th
- Classical Academy Test for 8th graders on November 14th
September, 2009--Cell Phone Policy
It has been proven that one of the leading causes of suspensions is related to the use of cell phones. Cell Phone use during the day is forbidden at Haverhill High School. Any student using a phone will have it confiscated and given to an Assistant Principal. The parents will be called and the phone only returned to a parent.
Thank you for your cooperation.
September, 2009--Important Information on Parking and Drop Off/Pick Up
As you know we have construction going on around the building with heavy equipment needing access to the close proximity of the building. We are also trying to attempt to change the traffic patterns around the building.
The following will go into affect:
1. No parking on roadways during or after school this includes the roadway near the athletic fields.
2. Cars need to be parked in lined spaces at all times.
3. No parking in front of the pool building or anywhere against the building.
4. A parent drop off and pick up point will be between the F and M wings. They will swing around the parking lot and drop off or pick up students.
5. No standing whatsoever between the end of F wing and the back of the Gymnasium.
6. There will be no standing parking in front of the building at the close of school to pick up students.
7. Busses for Athletic events or stadium will park behind pool and students will report to busses there instead of the Gym area.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
