    MCAS

    Grade 10 Math MCAS testing was completed on Wednesday, May 17th. Make-ups will continue until Monday, 22. The next round of MCAS will be June 6-7 when students in grade 9-10 will take the biology MCAS.

    Write Away Ceremony

    The District Parent Council is hosting their 26th Annual Write-Away ceremony on May 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of city hall in the auditorium. Award winners invitations were mailed home today.

    District Wide Art Show

    Hats off to the students of the Haverhill Public Schools! This week Haverhill High School hosted the District Wide Art Show on Monday. It was quite the success and has been such a pleasure to have the artwork of all ages showcased in the halls. So many warm and kind comments have been made by staff, students and community members. We thank Mrs. Mullane and the entire Fine Arts department at all grade levels for their hard work coordinating this event.

    HHS Attire:

    The warmer weather has arrived and we want to remind our students that Hillie Nation has a dress code. Students are not permitted to dress in any manner that is distracting to teaching or other students or disrupting to the educational process or environment of the school. Attire that distracts, disrupts, intimidates or provokes can be deemed inappropriate by the Principal, Associate Principal, or Assistant Principals. If that happens a parent/guardian may be called to bring a more appropriate outfit to wear. If you need clarification please see the student handbook for additional details.

    Senior Shout Out!

    Shaina Perates was accepted to all schools she applied to and will be attending UMass Lowell in the fall.

    Kirk Murray was accepted to and will be playing football at Stonehill College in Easton, MA. Congratulations Shaina and Kirk!

    Class of 2017 Updates:

    Seniors have been notified that senior dues, cafeteria fees, AP testing fees and lost book fees are due to Mrs. Shaffer in the 200’s office by May 23rd. If money is owed for athletic fees they are to go the athletic office between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and see Mrs. Gallagher.

     Night of Stars

    Last night at Haverhill High School we held our annual Night of Stars event for the Class of 2017. This was by invitation only and open to the families of the recipients. We celebrated 148 Seniors who received a total of 305 scholarships totaling over $115,000. The Night of Stars is the first of three award ceremonies. This will be followed up by Senior Banquet and Senior Chapel where we will give other awards and scholarships. We thank Mr. Fulgoni, Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Mr. Wood, Vice-President of the Haverhill School Committee for attending. Congratulations to all the winners!

     Tuesday, May 23                                R. Elaine Croston Poetry Reading/Senior Sign-Out/Senior Cookout

    All HHS Seniors should be in the auditorium by 8:30 a.m. to attend the competition. Readings begin at 9:00 a.m.

    When competition is over, students will be called to the gym by alphabetical order. Guidance, teachers, and administration will be there to assist in completing the sign-out process. Once they are signed out, seniors are asked to go through the back gym to the field for a Senior Breakfast/Cook-Out. At the back field, there will be food and much more!

     Tuesday, May 23                                Red Sox Game- Buses will leave for Boston from the school. Busses will leave HHS at 4:00 p.m. SHARP. Ticket price includes ticket and t-shirt. Buses will return to HHS directly after completion of game.

     Wednesday, May 24                          Chapel Practice9:00 a.m. SHARP in the 200s. Each classroom door will be marked alphabetically and NHS reports to the cafeteria. Teachers will check students in and line up. There will be practice walking to the auditorium and entering. Once we get to the auditorium and admin feels we have the procession complete, we will quickly run through the chapel program. At completion of the chapel practice, seniors will be instructed to report to the main gym to pick up caps and gowns and then EXIT THE CAMPUS.

     Friday, May 26                                      Chapel – HHS Auditorium. Seniors will report to assigned room in the 200s promptly at 10:30 a.m. CAP AND GOWN REQUIRED. At 10:50 a.m. Procession begins. ]11:00 a.m. Chapel Program begins – program lasts about 90 minutes.

     Tuesday, May 30                                Senior Prom Seaglass, Salisbury, MA. Prom begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 11:00 p.m. Please note if you leave the facility you will not be allowed back in.

     Thursday, June 1                               Graduation Practice – Trinity Stadium. Seniors report at 8:30 a.m. SHARP. Bring graduation number. Wear sunscreen – we will be in the sun for a couple hours. You will be given your yearbook at this time. Rain date – Friday, June 2

     Thursday, June 1                               Senior Banquet – Roma Restaurant, Bradford. 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Proper Dress is Required. Tickets can be purchased from Mrs. Beaudoin in Guidance. Tickets are $30.00 each.Tickets were on sale starting May 10th  through May 24th

     Friday, June 2                                     Graduation – Trinity Stadium – 6:00 p.m. Seniors must report at 4:30 p.m. Procession begins at 5:45 p.m. No one is permitted to march in the procession once it begins. Please note that high heels are not allowed on the Trinity Stadium artificial turf.

     Saturday, June 3                                 Graduation Rain Date – 6:00 p.m.

     Sunday, June 4                                    Graduation Rain Date – 2:00 p.m.

     All books and/or money owed by seniors must be collected by May 23. If not paid in full, or materials returned, the student will not receive a cap and gown and may not march in Chapel and Graduation Ceremony. Strictly enforced.

    School Counseling Update

    • Seniors!  Final transcripts will be sent to colleges after graduation.  Seniors complete an exit survey during Senior Sign Out which alerts your counselor as to where this information should be sent.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact your counselor!
    • Class of 2017, don’t forget to update your counselor and enter the college application decision in your Naviance account!  If you receive any scholarships from a college, please bring us a copy of your merit scholarship letter so that we can brag about your accomplishments!  We are eagerly waiting to see which colleges students are being accepted to and we like to share this news!
    • School Committee Scholarships are now available.  Copies can be obtained in the Counseling office or on Naviance.  Completed applications and all supporting documentation are due no later than May 24th.  Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.  
    • Students interested in next year’s Early College Cohort or Dual Enrollment opportunities through Northern Essex should sign up for the Accuplacer Test.  This test will be held in the HHS Library on May 19th.  Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school.  Students can sign up for the test with their school counselor.
