  • Principal’s Weekly Update- Week Ending June 2, 2017

    HHS Class of 2017- Graduation Ceremony , Friday, June 2nd @ 6:00 pm @ Trinity Stadium

    431 seniors will graduate tonight at Trinity Stadium.  Some statistics about this class include: 27% of the senior class was awarded the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship,  4.4% of the senior class plan to enlist in the military, 32 seniors earned the distinction,  of AP Scholars as a result of their high performance on AP exams 75% of the senior class plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college, which is up 4% from last year’s class and finally the class of 2017 has received a total of 815 college acceptances. We are all very proud of all 431 students. 

    Biology MCAS

    The Biology MCAS will be given on Monday, June 5th and be completed Tuesday, June 6th. All students in grade 9-10 will be taking this assessment on these two days. Please make sure your student is on time and well rested. Students have been given their room assignments this week and should report to their assigned location promptly at 7:25 a.m. If they are not sure where to go there are signs throughout the building or they can go to any office and find assistance with this.

    Grade 9-11 School Photos

    School photos will be taken in the auditorium on June 8th in the auditorium. All freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be photographed. ALL STUDENTS have been given a picture form to complete for school pictures. Brochures were distributed to 1st period classrooms on Thursday June 1st for students to bring home.

    Final Exams

    The final exam period begins Thursday, June 15th through Tuesday, June 20th. All students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. from June 15th through June 19th and on June 20th students will be dismissed at 9:30 a.m. Brunch will be available from 7:00 a.m.-7:25 a.m. during the final exam period. Buses will transport students home at 11:40 a.m. June 15th-June 19th and at 9:40 a.m. on June 20th. Report cards will be mailed home shortly after June 20th. The final exam schedule is as follows:

    Thursday, June 15th -Final exam for Period A- 7:30-9:30 followed by Period B- 9:40-11:40

    Friday, June 16th- Final exam for Period C- 7:30-9:30, followed by Period D- 9:40-11:40

    Monday, June 19th- Final exam for Period EF or FG- 7:30-9:30 followed by Period GH or HI-9:40-11:40

    Tuesday, June 20th- Final exam for Period J- 7:30-9:30

    Summer School 2017

    The brochures for summer school are out in the main office. Students who have failed a core course are encouraged to attend. The summer sessions begin July 6th and end August 10th. Students can take up to 2 courses. All courses are contingent upon enrollment. Tuition is $275.00 per course for HHS students and $300.00 per course for out of district students. There is no financial aid for summer school courses.      Fundraiser for the class of 2020

    The Class of 2020 is having a fundraiser at the 99’s on June 13th from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Please help support the Class of 2020. See the link below for the coupon to present to the 99 Restaurant for the class to get the donation.

    Fall Internships

    The HHS Internship Program is now accepting applications for the Fall semester.  Internships are a great way for students (Juniors and Seniors) to explore a career they think they might be interested in pursuing after high school.  Students build resumes and cover letters and spend the majority of the semester at a local business learning directly from their mentor.  See the website for more information (http://hhs.haverhill-ps.org/internship-program/ ) and stop by Library Room 6 with questions and applications.  Contact Lisa Hunt, Internship Coordinator, for more information at lhunt@haverhill-ps.org or by phone at 978-494-4221.

    School Counseling Update

    • Boston University’s College of Communication is offering high school students the opportunity to develop their cinematic or journalistic storytelling skills at the Academy of Media Production (AMP) from July 10th through August 4th.  Students participating in this program will create videos, webcasts, multi-camera productions and more.  Students will also have the chance to live on campus and get a sense for college life.  The deadline to apply is June 10th.  For program information and application materials visit bu.edu/amp.
    • Northern Essex Community College is offering a Summer Bridge English and Math Enrichment program for recent high school graduates who will be attending NECC in the Fall.  This is a one week, FREE program and looks to be a valuable opportunity for students to further strengthen their academic skills.  See the link below for more information!
