    Track and Field Nationals

I wanted to take a moment to share that four Hillie athletes from the Track and Field team will be representing Haverhill at the Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina this weekend.  They qualified for their SMR and will be running that at Nationals.  They are Matthew Milne – Class of 2018, Sean Glass – Class of 2019, Keith May – Class of 2019 and Hayden Makarow – Class of 2020. We are all just bursting with pride and are so excited for their journey ahead! Safe travels and good luck Matthew, Sean, Keith and Hayden.

    MCJROTC Update

Congratulations to the new CO of JROTC Michael Roy and the new Executive Officer Andrew Harrison. We look forward to your success in leading your peers!

We had a school-wide poster contest and all participants needed to submit their poster to the NEASC Steering Committee by Thursday, June 14th! GREAT: GLOBAL, RESPONSIBLE, ENGAGED, ACCEPTING and TENACIOUS! The student poster must: Encourage follow classmates to embody being GREAT and inform anyone who walks into the building what it means to be GREAT.

The steering committee reviewed all of the posters submitted and has made its decision on the poster contest:

    1st place – Giovanna Fonseca – 9th grade – $100

    2nd place – Eric Fila – 11th grade – $50

    3rd place – Olivia Burns – 9th grade – $25

Thanks to all who participated in this contest. We really enjoyed seeing what everyone came up with and the work that went into each poster.

    8th Grade Move-Up and Chalk-a-thon

Yesterday the HHS Fine Arts Department hosted 8th grade students for the annual 8th Grade Fine Arts Move-Up day combined with our annual Chalk-a-thon. This day was a creative outlet for our students to show the incoming freshman what Hillie Nation is all about. It was a positive and uplifting note for our students to carry their summer break. There were musical performances, poetry readings, food and more. I would like to thank Ellen Mullane, John Salvi, Susan Blim, Jeffrey Paszko, Ashley Polson, Dan Hickey, Bob Brandon, Melissa Kiessling, Andy Polanco, our student council members, Mr. Scully for spending some time with us and of course all of Hillie Nation who participated.

    School Counseling Final Update

    • Tentative schedules will be mailed home to students in July.  Included in the mailing will be a memo reviewing the process for requesting schedule changes, if needed.  Only requests that meet the stated criteria will be considered for review.  Final schedules will be available closer to the end of the summer.

    • Parents of the Class of 2019, the counseling office will once again run College Bootcamps this summer.  Dates/times of each session and sign ups will be announced shortly.  We are very excited to be able to offer these sessions and look forward to helping our students prepare for their senior year!
    • Juniors!  Don’t forget to utilize Naviance as you begin to consider colleges/universities.  Naviance has a great college search tool as well as an organizer where you can keep a running list of those schools you are most interested in!

    • Roger Williams University will host two summer events for prospective students and their families.  These events will be held on Monday July 30 and Friday August 17.  Students will see mock classes, learn college applications tips and tricks, eat lunch with members of the academic staff, and more.  To learn more or RSVP visit: https://connect.rwu.edu/portal/Summer_BBQ
