Haverhill High School
Principal’s Summer Update 6-26-17
Happy first full week of summer vacation!
The HHS report cards and tentative 2017-2018 schedules should be mailed out by the end of this week. The final report cards are available in the portal now. See the School Counseling update below for specifics on criteria for requesting course changes.
The summer reading lists are also posted on the HHS website. Students MUST read 2 books from the list as there will be an assignment given out the first few days back in August related to their reading. I attached the lists by grade to this email.
Summer school begins July 6, 2017 and will be held at HHS. Core courses offered based on enrollment. There is a cost for summer school. The brochure with all the details is below.
Important: Class of 2019 Students and Parents
HHS is again offering the Chyten Test Prep program to all juniors. See attached letter below with details.
- Tentative schedules for first semester classes will be mailed home to students with final report cards. Included in this mailing will be a memo reviewing the process for requesting schedule changes, if needed. Only requests that meet the stated criteria will be considered for review. Keep in mind that we are still in the process of balancing classes so there is a chance that while core academic classes will not change, it is possible that the class period or classroom will be different. Final schedules will be available closer to the end of the summer and will also be posted to the student/parent portal on SchoolBrains.
- Parents of the Class of 2018, for the first time the counseling office will be running several College Bootcamps in the month of August. Topics covered during these sessions include Naviance, The Common App and other college application systems, scholarships, FAFSA, and the college essay. The final bootcamp session will also involve a panel of admission representatives to answer questions about the college application process and what they look for in a potential applicant. Bootcamp sessions will be offered on August 10, 11, 17, and 18 and will run from 12pm-2pm. Sign ups for this great opportunity will be advertised in early July. Students will be able to sign up by calling the department and registering with Ms. Gravel or through an online registration form which we will send out via email in July. Each session will be capped at 20 students and so we encourage students to sign up once we release our program invitations. We are very excited to be able to offer these sessions and look forward to helping our students prepare for their senior year!
Enjoy this summer weather we have waited so long for!
