Spanish, Italian, German, Latin, and French Tutors needed to teach languages in the Haverhill middle schools. Interested students please contact Mrs. Finn in K15.

Volunteer tutors needed at Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in Haverhill is seeking volunteers willing to help children develop their talents in various areas, including sacred dance, piano, drums, guitar, brass instruments, drawing, acting and puppetry.

Volunteers are also needed for an after school program. Last year, the Salvation Army had 147 children enrolled in its Monday music and Tuesday youth programs. Due to an increase in enrollment this year, more volunteers are needed. As many as 200 children are expected to sign up for programs being offered this fall. "We believe the increase is due to families not having monies to put children in programs or send them to have private lessons," said Salvation Army Lt. Mari Hardy. "People are choosing between paying their rent, buying food and paying for gas to go back and forth to work. So their budgets are stretched." If you can spare one hour of your time a week to help a child learn please contact the Salvation Army at 978-374-7571.

For more information or to put your name on a list for these and other opportunities and training dates, please see Ms. Finn in Room K15
